Since October has just arrived, students were asked what their favorite Halloween movie was. The options consisted of Hocus Pocus, Nightmare Before Christmas, Hubie Halloween, Halloween (Michael Myers), Casper, BeetleJuice, Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin, A Scary Movie, Scream, and The Shining.

With a total number of 290 responses, Hocus Pocus had the highest number of votes with 64 votes. In second place was The Nightmare Before Christmas with 48 votes. In third place was Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin with 38 votes.

After Hocus Pocus was Halloween(Michael Myers) with 34 votes. Scream and Scary Movie were next with 24 votes.  Right behind that was The Shining with 19 votes. The rest of the movies had very little percentages of votes.

Hocus Pocus had the most votes. Hocus Pocus is about a group of friends who go out into the woods and find and explore an abandoned house. One of the friends then knocks over a coven of evil releasing the three witches. These witches then try to capture these kids and become immortal. Then the group of friends, with the help of a magical cat, have to take the witches’ spell book, stopping them from becoming immortal and trapping them back in the coven.

Following Hocus Pocus in votes was The Nightmare Before Christmas. Jack Skellington is the pumpkin king of Halloweentown, Jack then became bored of having to do the same thing every single year which was scarring the people in the real world. Jack then goes on a walk and falls into a tree revealing the other “holiday towns”. He makes his way into Christmastown which changes Jack’s point of view on life. Jack Skellington then planned a way to make Christmastown his by kidnapping Santa Claus only to discover that once Santa was kidnapped the best laid out plans of mice and men go seriously crazy.

In third place was Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin which was a Peanuts movie. This short film revolves around Linus. He tells his friends the story about “The Great Pumpkin” however no one believes him. To prove all of his friends wrong, he stays a whole night in the pumpkin patch alone.

According to the students of RCHS, Hocus Pocus is the best movie to watch during Halloween.

Throughout October, make sure to watch Hocus Pocus or Nightmare Before Christmas. As they did place first and second place in students’ opinions.
