The beloved Rock The Bridge fundraiser is returning, but with a twist. While it was completely cancelled last year due to COVID-19, organizers have redesigned the event in order to hold it safely this year. The event, which is attended by many Lexingtonians, typically features live electric music and plenty of space for dancing. However, due to safety protocol, organizers of the event have had to rethink its iconic setup. Rebranded as Rock The Bricks, the fundraiser promises to be a family friendly celebration of the history and culture of the city of Lexington.

On May 29 from 10 a.m to 4 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy live performances by local musicians in Lexington’s Hopkin’s Green. Organizers of the event are also selling 20 birdhouses designed by local craftsman Dustin Wilhelm. These birdhouses will be decorated by local artisans and then sold in a silent auction at the fundraiser.

The reason for the event’s name change is a new promotion that its organizers hope will allow those who are interested to own a piece of Lexington’s beautiful downtown cityscape. A limited number of the classic, intricately patterned bricks that make up many of the city’s sidewalks are being sold for 25 dollars each, and they will be available at the Rock The Bricks event.

Although some Lexingtonians miss the annual dance party that is Rock The Bridge, the Rock The Bricks fundraiser is a safe and promising alternative. Providing attendees with an opportunity to appreciate the creativity and talents of some of Lexington’s musical and visual artists, Rock The Bricks is set to be a celebration of many of the city’s best features and traditions.
