Marvel’s newest addition to the Deadpool franchise was a long awaited movie, having first been teased in February of this year, and releasing officially six months later, on July 26. However, no one would have expected how large of a hit this movie would become, shattering box office expectations. Not only did it blow through expectations, it blew most fans’ minds when some of their older favorite characters had special cameos, especially a certain special puppy.
Every Marvel fan was excited when it was announced that Deadpool and Wolverine would finally be getting a movie together, a long awaited team up for fans of any age. Along with the excitement regarding this legendary duo’s debut, it also brought many other unexpected characters that fans of the comic books and older movies lost their minds over, including the adorable Dogpool.
Outside of her acting career, Dogpool, also known as Peggy, has an incredibly busy life. She won the ugliest dog in the UK during 2023, and has amassed almost 1 million followers on Tiktok. Peggy, who is quite obviously hairless, is a hairless pug, where breeding seemed to go slightly off track, and resulted in the strange cuteness we all love today. Despite being the UK’s opinion of Peggy, fans were delighted to see her in the movie, and lost their minds over the adorable costume, and the bond between Ryan Reynolds and Peggy.
Aside from the lovable cast member, the story in this movie also had lots to love about it, grabbing your attention and not letting it go until the very end. Much like the first two Deadpool movies, this film was packed full of vulgar comedy and intense fights, so not quite for the faint of heart. Further proving this point, “Deadpool and Wolverine” took the seat of highest grossing R rated film from 2019’s “The Joker”, and made 1.086 billion dollars.
Another factor to the excitement was the return of Hugh Jackman to play as Wolverine, who starred in the earlier X-Men films, such as “X-Men”, “X-Men United”, “X-Men: The Last Stand”, and six of the other movies within the series.
Jackman’s performance was loved in these movies, and in this new movie, as expected, he didn’t disappoint. Ryan Reynolds and Jackman have a natural friendship that really plays through into the movies, and shows how acting brings them so closely together, making lots of the jokes and scenes feel so natural, and a lot less staged. Even after the movie, fans still have the Hugh Jackman craze, and who could blame them?
The camera work and shots within this movie were unreal, making the action and battle feel like you really were right there watching it. When it was announced Disney would be overseeing the creation of the film, many fans were worried. Deadpool’s franchise is known for its vulgar comedy and bloody fights, and feared it may not live up to normal Deadpool standards. But Disney pulled through, and from the opening scene to the final fight, it had fans laughing and in awe at the fights within the film. The costume designers and set creators did a fantastic job, showcasing beautiful and intense areas for fights, and costumes for our favorite characters that really pulled them together.
Overall, if you love a good action-comedy, or even just want to finish off the Deadpool trifecta, this movie is a must watch. With a gripping plot that turns the main characters life upside down, left for him and his only ally to fix, and a satisfactory ending that leaves room for future films, this movie kept me and many others enthralled. Even if people were skeptical about Disney’s involvement in the film, worried it wouldn’t match the vulgar comedy of its prequels, they truly outdid themselves. If you have an itching for a good, R-rated action packed comedy, don’t miss out on the opportunity to enjoy “Deadpool and Wolverine” to its fullest.
