These songs are the soundtrack for summer activities like swimming, going to the beach, and warm weather. A lot of hit songs came out this past summer, which makes choosing a single song to represent it difficult.
Students answered a poll choosing which song they think is the “song of the summer.” Students got to choose from “HOT TO GO” by Chappell Roan, “Apple” by Charli XCX, “Birds Of A Feather” by Billie Eilish, “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar, “28” by Zach Bryan, “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone, and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey. All of these songs spent time at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 over the summer.
“Not Like
Us” by Kendrick Lamar took the top spot with 30.2% of responders. “Not Like Us” earned the most single-day streams for a hip hop song at 12.8 million streams. This song also received the most song streams for a rapper in a single week, coming in at 81.2 million streams. This song has a great beat, and is full of shocking lyrics to diss Drake.
Sophomore Christian Moore explains why he thin
ks this was the “song of the summer”.
“The reason why I picked ‘Not Like Us’ as the summer anthem is because it engaged a lot of new people into hip hop. Many believe the song concluded the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, and th
e controversy brought many listeners who didn’t necessarily like hip hop that much,” said Moore. “Everyone was bumping ‘Not Like Us’ whether you were a country listener, or a Swiftie. No other song this summer really brought together such a diverse audience like that.”
Coming in second was “28” by Zach Bryan
, and third went to “HOT TO GO!” by Chappell Roan.
Freshmen Natasha Shorter describes why she chose “28”.
“I chose the song ‘28’ by Zach Bryan as my song of the summer because I listened to the song very frequently,” said Shorter. “And when I hear the song I usually associate it with summer and certain memories.”
This summer was filled with many fun and memorable songs. The mix of music was very div
erse, including pop, rap, and country. Although it was a tight race of music genres, rap music is the favorite among students.
