“A Bar Song” was released in 2024 as a part of Shaboozey’s “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going” album. The song quickly appeared on TikTok as a viral sound, just as most “one hit wonders” do. After gaining attention on TikTok, “A Bar Song” was picked up by radio stations, unfortunately increasing its streams.
The Billboard Top 100 first saw this dreadful song in August 2024. On July 13, they made the mistake of naming “A Bar Song” #1 on the Billboard charts. For a song to achieve this title, it has to have the highest number of sales, radio airplays, and streams, all of which is calculated by Billboard. “A Bar Song” has now been #1 for 13 weeks in a row. Many are asking how or why this happened, including myself.
Shaboozey has titled himself a country artist, although that conflicts with his music. His songs are more of an upbeat pop feel with guitar and way too much autotune, giving an icky feel that listeners can’t seem to shake.
This annoying style of music that he creates is what turns people away. “A Bar Song” is a perfect example of this. With strange lyrics that don’t really make sense and a chorus that takes over the entire song, listeners are left wondering “What was Billboard thinking?”
