The movie adaptation of the video game series, Borderlands, released on Aug. 9. The reception, however, has not been positive. Many fans are unsure of how to feel about the movie compared to the game.
The games are primarily based on the planet Pandora where you play in an open-world. An open-world means you are free to move around the map freely while completing quests and challenges to progress.
There are many different characters to choose from throughout the games but the Vault hero’s, which is the name for the characters, are unannounced. The whole point of the game is to progress by finding vaults filled with alien loot with help of a mysterious “Guardian Angel”.
The main characters in the movie and games are Lilith played by Cate Blanchett, Tiny Tina played by Ariana Greenblattand, and many others. The movie is set on the planet of Pandora which is the home planet of Typhon DeLeon, a main character in the movie. She’s an infamous bounty hunter who creates an unexpected alliance with a ragtag team of misfits. As the movie progresses they are faced with issues such as fighting alien monsters and dangerous bandits.
The cast consists of many well known actors in the movie scene, Bobby Lee, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black. Black and Hart are two actors who have been in countless highly rated movies on the rotten tomatoes scale, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and Jumanji: The Next Level. These two movies reached a 70% rotten tomatoes out of 100 which is considered high for a movie. Bobby Lee, another well known comedian and actor who starred in Borderlands also starred in Sweet Dreams, a comedy that also reached a 70% rotten tomatoes rating. The move includes all these famous
and well known actors which gave Borderlands high expectations to turn out as a publicly liked movie.
The movie is not a direct adaptation, so it creates a completely different storyline and plot than the games and the only similarities are the characters.
The movie has been rated 9% Rotten Tomatoes which is an insanely low rating. This is because it has little relation to the games which upset people because they were anticipating something similar on the big screen.
In both trailers it takes place on Pandora, the main planet in the game and movie. From what’s shown in the trailer for the movie it is realistic and live action, while the game is more cartoonish and more animated. The game is slow paced and open-world while the movie is more focused on certain scenes and is hard on the location. In all, the main differences of the movie and games are the aspects that they focus on.
