Homecoming dresses are a hot topic in the months leading up to the big dance on October 26th. There are so many different styles, cuts, materials, and colors to choose from that it can be quite
overwhelming to find a dress for such a big occasion.
Classic style dresses seem to be taking the cake this year. Many students are choosing silk, bows, and ruffles, instead of the sequins and feathers that have been popular in previous years.
Junior Dorothy Lewis shares what she looks for when hunting for a dress.
“I look for colors that would suit my skin tone, and I like it when it’s poofy on the bottom. My dress has little pink flowers, and I think they are so cute,” said Lewis.
There are so many different ways to find a dress these days, from saving dresses on a Pinterest board, to spotting it on a mannequin at a department store. Many students chose to go in person at Becky’s Bridal in Buena Vista, or Windsor in Richmond.
For many students, searching for a dress can be stressful, but it was an easy choice for Junior Evelyn McClung.
“I actually found my dress unintentionally on an Instagram reels ad, and I immediately knew that I needed it. It depicts my whole personality so well,” said McClung.
Finding the perfect dress for homecoming can either be extremely exciting or extremely stressful for many high schoolers. With a wide variety of colors, styles, and brands on the market, it is the perfect chance to showcase your personality through fashion. Even if it feels stressful finding a dress for the big day, the end results in memories that will last forever.
