“Transformers One” was released on Sept. 20, and had a small box office performance. This small box office performance is unfortunate because the film itself is actually quite good. The plot is surprisingly deep and not surprisingly action packed.
This movie is very dramatic even though the trailers and little marketing gave the impression that the movie was silly and childish with little intrigue. This lack of marketing is one of the biggest reasons why the film isn’t succeeding at the box office.
The marketing failure is a shame because the voice cast is also fantastic. The film stars highly acclaimed actors Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansenn, and Keegan Michael Key give their all to every line and dialogue throughout the movie.
The animation style for the movie feels very classic, like something you would see from the early 2010s.
As I mentioned before, the film is surprisingly dark and serious even though the marketing made the film seem childish. There are lots of mild swears, a couple of adult jokes, and even some very violent imagery. All of this is accomplished while still having a PG Rating.
The plot follows Orion Pax and D-16 (who will later become Optimus Prime and Megatron) in their early years as we see their friendship slowly turn into rivalry as they uncover a dark secret about their home planet Iacon. The rivalry between Optimus Prime and Megatron is a relationship that even the most un-knowledgeable “Transformers” fan knows of, but it was still heartbreaking nonetheless to see these two friends become enemies. Megatron in this movie is an interesting villain because you see the exact moment he snaps and becomes more villainous and murder hungry.
Honestly my only issues with the movie stem from a couple of pacing problems in the plot. The movie slows down and ramps up weirdly and some of the characters are not fleshed out, more specifically Keegan Michael-Key and Scarlett Johanssen’s characters.
All in all, despite its small issues, this movie is an amazing action packed adventure that I love so very much. I really want this movie to get a sequel and hopefully it does, because the film industry needs more movies like this. So please watch the movie right now as it is streaming almost everywhere, and let’s show Paramount that we want more!

I’d be down to buy it, in fact, I’ve been looking for a copy since the shelf date was supposed to happen. They don’t want it to succeed, because they’ve made no effort to push it, and you can hardly find merchandise or physical copies in general, besides the toy line. It’s a great movie, probably the best Transformers movie, but nuHasbro doesn’t care about anything past MtG and other low-effort cash grabs.
