Throughout the years, new scary movies have come out that everyone loves! Some scary movies I have loved were “Terrifier”, “A Quiet Place Day One”, and “Long Legs” The plots and change of events are how a true scary movie is put together.
“Terrifier” is about a clown named Art, who tries to kill three women in an old apartment on Halloween night. The backstory of Art the clown remains anonymous but with his appearance, it shows his supernatural abilities. Towards the end of the movie he supposedly dies but due to him being immortal, he was resurrected. While he kills two out of the three women, the last woman was disfigured by Art the clown, but survives. Towards the end of the movie she gets possessed by Art and starts to go mad.
While Art the clown is a possessed demon, in the movie “Smile”, people are possessed by a violent demonic entity. Instead of having a host to kill people, the demonic entity forces itself to make people go mad, to unalive themselves, and goes to the next person that saw that person die.
“Smile” takes place in San Francisco, California and takes place back in the year 1992. In total, the smile kills 23 people. In the beginning of “Smile”, the main character, Rose, is met with her mother who had just overdosed. She then becomes a therapist. Throughout the scene she meets with one of her patients who is unknowingly possessed by a demonic intensity that uses the trauma of the host to go mad. While Rose talks to her horrified patient who seems to be hallucinating, in a turn of events, she starts to destroy the room they’re in and ends her life. In the end the main protagonist, Rose, is face to face with the entity in its original monstrous form.
From clowns to evil entities. One thing that makes a scary movie a true horror film is the unknown. “Long Legs” has just that. It starts off with a FBI agent named Lee Harker, who is drawn into a serial killer haunt. Longlegs, the killer, puts a trance on a doll that is given to his victims, which all his victims birthdays always land on the 14 of each month. After Harker catches Longlegs, he tells her to talk to her mother as he later dies. After Harker talks to her mother, she finds out that she was helping Longlegs the entire time due to Long Legs trying to kill Harker as a younger girl.
While new movies are still coming out, “The Quiet Place” has always been a big hit, “A Quiet Place Day One” came out after “The Quiet Place” to show us what it was like when it all started. It starts off with the main character, Sam, who is a terminally ill cancer patient who leaves her hospice and explores New York with her service cat. Soon she is face to face with alien creatures who can hear any little sound. Sam then meets a man named Eric. Sam doesn’t want Eric to tag along, but in the end she seems hopeful enough. At the end of the movie Eric and Sam’s cat Frodo make it on a boat due to the aliens being afraid of water. Sam’s fate is unclear. Sam sacrifices and makes noises to steer the aliens away from Eric so he is able to make it to safety. Throughout the movie Sam listens to music on her iPod with headphones in. At the last shot of the movie she unplugs her headphones as the song, “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone plays loud in the empty quiet street. Soon enough all the aliens run towards her as the screen goes black.
These top three movies were the most chilling movies I have watched. The plots all have some chilling plot twist and something no one can imagine. Both terrifier and Smile have one thing in common, which is having another person help them with the killings, which we don’t know about until both ends of each movie. As for A Quiet Place Day One. This is an alien invasion and trying to survive by making as little sound as possible. All these movies have such action and change of events that not even big horror fans would know. If you tend to like the movies, The Black Phone, Bird Box, or House of 1000 Corpses. Then these are the movies you must watch next!
