The new Disney movie “Mufasa” recently came to theaters. We decided to give the movie an honest review before people spend their money on a movie they might not enjoy.
The most common questions people ask before watching a new movie are: Will the movie be interesting and keep me invested, does the genre of the movie match up with how the movie is presented, and do I have enough background information on the movie if it happens to be a sequel or prequel?
We are here to answer these questions and give insight to the movie. Starting strong with the first question: Is the movie interesting enough to keep my focus? We feel like the movie had an interesting, catchy soundtrack and was able to keep us invested. It did not drag on an unnecessary amount, keeping it interesting.
Does the genre fit the movie well? “Mufasa” is a musical drama. The musical aspect of the movie is very fitting because throughout the movie there are various songs that are sung.
There is also lots of drama and action in the movie between the characters, especially Scar and Mufasa. The songs work well together to further the plot and grow the tension.
This movie was directed by Barry Jenkins. Mufasa’s voice actor was Aaron Pierre, Kiara’s voice actress was Blue Ivy Carter, Kiros was voiced by Mads Mikkelsen, and Nala was voiced by Beyoncé. The dialogue seemed similar to the original Lion King, and didn’t leave much originality.
Although we have already seen The Lion King, we should’ve rewatched it before coming to see Mufasa. It seemed as though Mufasa acted as a prequel to the Disney original.
Overall, we thought that Mufasa was a good movie and lived up to the hype. It was visually interesting, emotional, and perfectly lines up to the beginning plot of The Lion King. We highly recommend this movie.
