Around Valentine’s Day, I spend a lot of my free time watching romantic comedy movies. I have found that the holiday centered around spending time with people you love, can be celebrated by watching sweet but funny films.
Some very well-known older romantic comedies are “When Harry Met Sally,” “Pretty Women,” “The Wedding Planner,” “She’s All That,” “10 Things I Hate About You,” “Maid in Manhattan,” “Just Go With It,” “Clueless,” “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” “Mamma Mia,” and “13 Going on 30”. More recent movies include, “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” “Anyone But You,” and “The Kissing Booth”. These have become very popular amongst teens.
Many of the romantic comedy characters face obstacles despite falling in love. For example, in “Mamma Mia”, Sophie searches to have her dad at her wedding, or in “The Kissing Booth”, where Elle falls in love with her best friend’s brother. The light-hearted jokes and romance of each movie takes viewers on an emotional roller coaster.
These movies are created to make viewers laugh but also make them feel bittersweet toward the romantic plotline. I have found that many of them can be comforting and don’t get old after watching them over again every year for Valentine’s Day.
Even if viewers aren’t romantically taken, these movies can still be enjoyed by everyone. Regardless of relationship status, they are for the single ladies, people in a happy relationship, or people with heartbreak.
To find and stream romantic comedies, Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney + are the best places to look this Valentine’s Day.
