Many people argue about which fast food chicken nugget is the best, so we’re here to settle the debate. We went to seven different fast food places around Lexington: Chick-fil-a, Mcdonalds, Arby’s, Wendy’s, Cookout, KFC(Kentucky Fried Chicken), and Burger King, to see which should be crowned as the best nugget.
While reviewing the nuggets, we focused on the three C’s, crisp, crunch, and color, along with flavor and texture. This helped us find the differences in their quality to see which nugget was most superior. While tasting all of the nuggets, we quickly realized which factors made a nugget good. We started to give higher rankings the nuggets that tasted more real and fresh.
First we tried KFC, and paid $3.99 for their smallest size. (pack of 6) Since both of us were new to the KFC nugget, we did not know what to expect. Right out of the box we noticed the nuggets were soggy and soft, lacking two of the most important parts in ranking nuggets, crisp and crunch. The color was a nice golden brown but in the end we ranked it a 6.5/10.
After KFC, we reviewed Mcdonalds. We enjoyed the crisp that the nuggets had along with the golden brown color. It also had a nice flake on the outside coating. The smallest count at Mcdonalds was a 4 count, this was around $3. We enjoyed the taste and texture of the nuggets, overall ranking them a 7.5 out of 10.
After ranking Mcdonalds, we tried Chick-Fil-a. Overall it was the best nugget and was only $3.99 (pack of 6). It had the 3 C’s, crisp, crunch, and color, and the chicken tasted real and unartificial. In addition to the nugget it also had the best sauce (Chick-fil-a sauce) to boost it to the top of our list. We ranked this nugget a 9.5/10.
When trying Arbys, we quickly realized how big the nuggets were. They were very different to bite into, considering “nuggets” are supposed to be bite size, and these were the size of chicken tenders. On the other hand these nuggets were only around 2 dollars (pack of 4) which was a whole dollar less than the others and a good deal considering the size. Nonetheless we decided to rank them a 4/10
Wendy’s Nuggets tasted so artificial. I thought the outside coating tasted very fake. They were about 3 dollars for a 4 count, and for the price, we thought they were bad. They tasted like microwave nuggets you buy at the store. They were 3 out of 10 overall.
They’re we mixed opinions about the Cookout nuggets. We both had different Ideas about the taste and texture. Personally, I felt they were very fresh tasting, more so than the others that were reviewed. Ruby thought they tasted very fake and gross. The 3 count nugget was around 1.25, which is less expensive than some of the places we reviewed. We ranked them about 7/10.
We ranked Burger King in last place. Their nuggets were $3.19 (pack of 4) They were bland, soggy and had no crunch at all. They were not fresh and tasted like they had been frozen and reheated. We ranked them 1/10.
After trying and ranking all of the nuggets, Chick-fil-a once again came out at the top. It was by far the freshest, crunchiest, and best tasting nugget out of them all. If you are ever in Lexington and feel like having some nuggets, Chick-fil-a is the place to go!
