Many high school students watch romance movies on the weekend or during the summer. Romance movies are movies about characters falling in love or finding their soulmate.

There are many types of romance movies: romantic comedy, also known as rom-com, dramatic romance, historical romance, and fantasy romance. Rom-coms are romance movies with a comedic twist. Some examples of rom-coms are “13 going on 30,” ”10 things I Hate About You,” “50 First Dates,” “Mamma Mia,” and “She’s The Man,” Dramatic romance movies have a ton of emotion with the love story. Some examples of dramatic romance movies are “Titanic,” “The Notebook,” “All the Bright Places,” “The Fault in Our Star,” and “A Walk to Remember,” Historical romance movies are set in a historical period of time with the two main characters falling in love. Some examples of historical romance movies are “Pride and Prejudice,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Little Women,” “Les Miserables”, and “Letter to Juliet,” Fantasy romance movies have fantasy elements such as fairies and werewolves, where the main characters start to fall in love with each other. Some examples of fantasy romance movies are “Twilight,” “The Age of Adaline,” “The Giver,” “Irish Wish,” and “Every Day”.
Many tropes exist in romance movies. Tropes are ways the characters could fall in love. Enemies to lovers is the most popular and known trope in movies. Enemies to lovers is where the main characters aren’t friends and most likely hate/ despise each other but later in the movie they fall in love. The love triangle is another popular love trope. In a love triangle the two male lead roles love the main female role but hate each other, this continues to create a suspenseful plot.
