As the weather gets warmer, students begin to look forward to summer and the activities that accompany it. Sometimes it can be hard to come up with a summer hobby, so I have created a summer bucket list to help students stay busy this summer
- Swim or float down the river – This is a great option to cool off on a hot summer day. There are many rivers in Rockbridge County, so this is an accessible and free activity. Many people start at Beans Bottom and float down the Maury River to Jordan’s Point, or they go to W&L back campus to access the Maury River. As the temperatures rise, so does the water temperature.
- Hiking – Due to Rockbridge County’s location, there are lots of hikes like Big House Mountain or Apple Orchard Falls. This can be a fantastic option if you are looking to move your body and be in nature.
- Hull’s Drive In – The unique drive in movie theater is perfect to end a summer day. Hull’s usually shows two movies a night, the gate opens at 7 p.m every night, and movies begin at 8:30. With a variety of genres of movies so bring a few friends and go watch some movies!
- Camping – A camping trip can be a terrific activity for summer time.
- Lexington Farmers Market – Our city’s farmers market is open on Wednesday mornings. This market provides access to small businesses selling a variety of items.
- Going to the pool – Whether you’re going to a friend’s pool or going to the public pool, a summer pool day is always fun! In Lexington, the Lexington City Pool is a public option that is open to everyone for a small fee. The Country Club Pool is also another place to attend the pool.
- Pickleball – This easy and accessible sport has become very popular over the past few years, and for good reason. This sport is a fun way to be active and hang out with friends.
This list has a range of summer activity options, so that everyone can find what is interesting to them. Although it can be hard to not be bored in summer, hopefully this last can help!
