Throughout the course of Rockbridge County’s history, we have had all kinds of fun and unique homecoming themes. With our Homecoming festivities coming to a close, it has the cats thinking on these past themes, wondering if we got the best of the best or if we’ll go down into history like the rest.

The top eight themes dating from 1997 to today include Mardi Gras, Some Things Last Forever, Lexington Luau, James Bond, Starry Nights and City Lights, Viva Lex Vegas, Wildcat Fever, and Glamour.

Sophomore Addison Elliott gives her opinion on the themes.

“I like the Starry Nights one the most. Girls have the most dress options that fit that theme, I think, and it’s just plain classy,” said Elliott.

Sophomore MaCayla Fridley gives her two cents on all of the themes.

“I like the Starry Night theme as well. I’m sure the decorations were pretty, and all the dresses must’ve been gorgeous. I think our themes so far have been good, but I would definitely go for a starry night city light theme for next year,” said Fridley.

While RCHS has done an amazing job making every year unique and capturing the interest of every student, some students think that these past homecoming themes should make another future appearance.

Fridley talks about past themes.

“The originality of our homecoming themes always seems to be lacking. I don’t understand why we can’t have those themes for future years. I don’t want another 90s theme or disco. Give me something unique like the Viva Lex Vegas, it seems so personal to RCHS,” said Fridley.

Over the years, RCHS has done an amazing job with all school dance themes. While originality and student interest is always top priority, there’s no shame in looking at our past for future ideas.
