Everywhere you go there are signs of fall. The leaves are starting to change colors, pumpkin flavored favorites are coming back out, temperatures are falling.
All of this suggests that Homecoming is quickly approaching for Rockbridge County. The Student Council was hard at work planning this event. A lot of effort went into the thought of spirit days, themes, music choice, and more.
One of the events during Homecoming that students look forward to is hallway decorating. Each year, the four grades compete against each other to see who can make the best themed hall. All of the classes worked hard to make their hallway the greatest.
Dana Howald, a special education teacher and sophomore class sponsor, helped with the sophomore hall. She spoke on the event while the sophomores were decorating.
“We’ve spent a couple hours on planning already so far and we’ll have all day Sunday to decorate,” said Howald, “I’d say it’s going really well. The sophomore class has a good plan and a good idea on what they want to go with for their hall and they have a schedule set up and it’s going to go really smoothly.”
Mr. Ben Kabzinski, a special education teacher and junior class sponsor who also coaches JV football. He also gave some insight on the day of the decorating.
“We’ve spent about 45 minutes to an hour on really brainstorming throughout all of our meetings we’ve had so far this year and I think that our students have a good sense of what they want to do with their decorations. I’m excited to see what they came up with [and watch it] come to life in our hallway when we go to decorate,” said Coach Kabzinski.
Another special education teacher and junior class sponsor, Andy Coffey spoke about the event.
“Planning for homecoming is going well. We had several meetings to discuss our topic and theme for decorating. We then drew up a plan, we came in and executed it,” said Coffey, “We’ve probably spent about 4-5 hours with plans and drawings and we were here from 12:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday.”
Ms. Amanda Grimm, a Career and Technical Education teacher and the senior class sponsor, spoke on the theme decision making.
“I think [planning] is going well. The senior officers have met a couple times to talk about it and kick around ideas, and they came up with probably five or six, and then narrowed it down to just a few and voted on it amongst themselves, so they decided to [go with] the disco theme,” said Grimm.
There is a lot involved in planning and accomplishing the designs throughout the school. While these were only a few names, many people were involved in the process of decorating the halls and showing school spirit.
