Recently, Facebook Marketplace was changed to only allow people over the age of 18 to use their services. This arose some issues with younger students who liked to use this feature on the Facebook app.
Many students used the Facebook Marketplace feature to shop for various things. Some of the most common are vehicles, furniture, and even electronics.
Since this feature has been restricted, it has made it impossible for younger teens to browse the site.
A lot of the past users at our school are speaking out against this new requirement and feel like it is unnecessary and they think the new rule should be lifted.
Avid Marketplace user, junior Caleb Shaw shared his opinion on the restrictions.
“It was very unreasonable for them to add this restriction and it has made it harder to buy things,” said Shaw.
Sophomore Daniel Reed contributes his argument against the new rule.
“It infuriates me that I cannot spend my free time looking at facebook marketplace, “ said Reed.
Previous marketplace buyer, sophomore Abigail Bouchard explains her frustration.
“I use facebook marketplace to look at old trucks for sale,” said Bouchard.
The difficulty to shop and sell on this app is making much of the student body unhappy. They are confused and are angry that their privileges have been taken away from them, especially since they have been using the app for a while.
Many of them are finding new ways to go around the rule, like asking their parents to sell things for them or even selling and buying somewhere else.
