Student Council Association (SCA) held a schoolwide Easter egg hunt March 29 as a fun celebration for Easter. Almost 4,000 eggs were hidden around the school for students to find in between class periods.
Students found candy and other prizes, such as vouchers, in the eggs, and dropped the emptied ones in egg drop-off bins around the school. The eggs were donated by Kacey Potter, the owner of Pure Eats. The SCA, and other local businesses and organizations, donated the candy.
Mrs. Jessica Crance, the SCA supervisor, spoke about how the new tradition began.
“Addie Wright had the idea [of the Easter egg hunt] for school spirit and fun,” said Crance.
Senior Addie Wright, SCA executive president, spoke of why the event came to be.
“We are at the age where we do not participate in egg hunts anymore, so why not make one. I thought it would bring more joy,” said Wright.
Wright continued about how the hunt went well.
“There were lots of things that went well, and lots of people were able to participate. We got lots of positive feedback,” said Wright.
Similarly, she spoke of the negatives.
“Sometimes we would put out eggs and then people would follow behind us and pick them all up and get 30 at a time,” said Wright.
Crance also said that the hunt went extremely well, bringing a much-needed break to burnt-out students. However, while most students enjoyed the Easter egg hunt, Crance also said that a small number of students made it less fun for everybody else by collecting eggs during class or taking too many in between class periods.
“The goal was for every student to get a couple of eggs,” Crance said.
Despite the small issues, the Easter egg hunt went extremely well, bringing the students of Rockbridge closer together in friendly competition as they searched for eggs and the prizes that were held within them.
