Homecoming is quickly approaching. Students are finding dates and making preparations. One of these preparations is to get flowers. One of the ways students can get these flowers is by buying them through the Horticulture here at RCHS.
The Horticulture class is taught by Ms. Gosney. The class is dedicated to learning about plants. While they don’t have a greenhouse currently, they will be getting a very nice upgrade when the new CTE wing opens up.
Students around the school were able to order flowers from the class for a time. These orders were given to the Horticulture class. Students in Horticulture classes will work the week of homecoming to prepare the bouquets and corsages for the big night. When ordering flowers you are able to pick from a variety of flowers and colors. This fundraiser provides an easy and convenient way to get homecoming and prom flowers inexpensively.
The money that is raised from the homecoming flowers is then used to support the spring prom flowers.
Senior Josie Caldwell will help to prepare the flowers.
“Each horticulture student is assigned a specific person, taking into account the person’s attire and accessories,” said Caldwell.
With the new CTE renovations, the classes will be able to produce more flowers and better quality for upcoming formal events.
Agriculture teacher Gwendolyn Gosney is the head of the Homecoming flower fundraiser.
“This is our fourth year selling flowers. With the new CTE renovations, the class will be getting three new coolers, we will also be getting new tools and cabinets to store all our new stuff,” said Gosney.
The orders closed on Oct. 4 for Homecoming. But don’t worry, you will have another opportunity come Prom.
