Food for Thought is the student run food pantry at RCHS. At the Homecoming game on Oct. 25, Food for Thought hosted a food drive at the football game where every item of food you brought was a ticket that goes into the raffle basket. This helped provide more food for the RCHS food pantry.
Elsa Kerin-Rice has been an intern for Food for Thought for the past two years and describes what Food for Thought does.
“Food for Thought is the RCHS school food pantry. We offer free meals to students, staff, and families. We have food drives every month,”Kerin-Rice said.
She continues by explaining how you get tickets for the raffle.
“There are two baskets each worth over $300 in downtown gift cards. Each item you bring is worth a ticket so bring a lot to increase your chance to win,” Kerin-Rice said.
Kellen Foster is another intern for Food for Thought. He explains what type of food they need for a raffle ticket.
“All you have to do to get a ticket for the raffle is to bring non-perishable food items such as canned chicken, canned chili, cereal, shelf-stable milk, and Mac and cheese to the football game,” Foster said.
Foster then explains what businesses contributed to the baskets.
“We have gift cards to Appalachian Sage, Sweet Things, Golden Garden, Sweet Treats, Salernos, Pronto, RC Pizza, Just Games, four Main Street Lexington certificates worth $50 each, and Pure Eats,” Foster said.
Sarah Brown is also a Food for Thought intern who helped out with this food drive.
“All of this food from the football game is going to be used for our drive because at our last drive we had 122 show up, and so far this year we’ve had over a thousand meals served so we are upgrading our budget and we are going up to 50 boxes,” Brown said.
Food for thought gathered 367 items of food at the food drive at the football game. These items will help them produce more boxes for their food drive every month.
