Halloween is a time for people to dress up and trick or treat, a yearly tradition loved by adults and children. It is a festive holiday in Oct. Where many kids and teens can be scary or cute. This year, we wanted to answer the important question of what students are dressing up as for the holiday.
As some kids start to get older, the idea of dressing up seems less fun and more childish. Freshmen Tempie is one of these people, leaving the tradition of dressing up to the children. Not only can costumes be a lot, but the idea of running around at night with hundreds of loud people around can sound pretty overwhelming to some.
“I’m not sure if I’m gonna be anything for Halloween, but I just don’t like going out for halloween,” said Noyce.
Even though some people are less fond of celebrating the holiday, others don’t share the same opinion. Many teenagers believe that costumes shouldn’t be just for the children, and the holiday fun should be for everyone.
There are many different types of costumes, some kids and teenagers dress up as Disney characters or even animals.
Junior Sierra Hostetter dressed up in a group Disney costume with her friends.
“I’m dressing up as Tinkerbell with my cousin Mackenzie Hostetter ,” Hostetter said.
Many people also do group costumes with their friends and family. These group costumes help show the spirit of the holiday with friends and family. Group costumes are planned, with some examples being characters from tv shows, super heroes, or joke costumes.
Emma and her siblings are doing a cute group costume together.
“ Me and my siblings are going to m&m’s.” Mazingo said.
Group costumes aren’t always super fancy or serious, a great example being Sophomore Loyda Little. Little’s planning to do a duo costume with her and her friend, making them from scratch to avoid paying tons of money on a fancy costume. They’re going as characters from an old childhood movie, Surf’s Up.
“I’m going to be Chicken Joe from Surf’s Up,” Little Said.
Going solo on a costume can be just as fun, which is what Tasha plans to do this year. While the idea of braving a costume alone seems intimidating, it leaves lots of creativity up to the costume creator, letting them be whatever they want and design it however they see fit.
“I am going as a sailor, with a sailor hat, a blue and white striped shirt, and a white skirt.” Tasha said.
