Every year, the exchange students are an important part of the school. They come from all over the world to visit America. Shae their unique holiday traditions .
German exchange student Gene Kaehler informed us about a winter holiday. On Dec. 6, there is a holiday called St. Nicholas. During this holiday, All the parents take the kids’ shoes, boots, and socks and then put treats like chocolate and candy in them. “When I was a kid, I always woke up early for St. Nicolas. I just loved finding all the chocolate all over,”Kaehler said. But Germany mostly celebrates the same holidays that we do, like Christmas and New Year.
Another student Nikita Rogov from Kyrgyzstan celebrates a Muslim holiday called Kurban Eid, which is a day of kindness, good deeds, and charity. This is where they all give money, almost everyone celebrates this holiday because his country is 97% muslim. They also have Nowruz, which started in Iran so they call it the Iranian New Year also known as the Persian New Year because they celebrate it. “It is basically like Halloween because kids go in the streets and ask for candy and sing,” Rogov said.
It is helpful to know how other people’s cultures celebrate important days.
