Although winter time can be dull, gray, and boring, snow brings joy, color, and excitement to peoples’ lives as they sled, build snowmen, and have snowball fights with their friends. For students, snow can also mean a full week of snow days. From Jan 6-10, Rockbridge County Public Schools were closed due to snow and ice. Although we may not see all of our peers on a snow day, now we can understand a little bit more about what they are up to on their days off.
Many students enjoy the experience of actual snow, but some may use their time off as a way to stay warm inside and spend time with their families. Sophomore Kellen Foster shares his favorite way to spend his snow days.
“I love to play board games on snow days because it serves as a nice structured break from reality. I also love playing games with my family because it reminds me of what is important,” Foster said.
While some students prefer the cozy warmth of being inside, others have fun playing in the snow. Junior Elsa Kerin-Rice enjoys her snow days out on the slopes, sledding down hills with her friends.
“Sledding is my favorite thing to do on a snow day because it’s fun to get outside with friends and enjoy the cold weather. My favorite sledding spot is definitely the Lexington golf course,” Kerin-Rice said.
Even when school is fun, everyone needs a fun snow day to sled, play board games, drink hot chocolate, and rest from the brainwork required at school. With all of these activities that students get to experience on snow days, hopefully it can inspire others to get outside, hang out with friends, and just enjoy the time off in the snow.
