As 2024 comes to an end, 2025 brings awards season to recognize the achievements of the entertainment industry in the past year. The Oscars, the Grammys, and the Tonys are a few examples of award shows that celebrate the hard work that goes into producing the art that is enjoyed by people around the world. The shows were kicked off on Jan. 5 by the Golden Globes in California. The Golden Globes recognizes the achievements of movies and TV shows internationally.
The outfits worn by celebrities are one of the most discussed elements of these awards shows. The Golden Globes were filled with outfits that were popular on social media. I have viewed all of the outfits worn by the women of the Golden Globes, and these are my favorites.
Zendaya wore a silky, Louis Vuitton burnt orange dress to the event. She was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Picture – Musical or Comedy for “Challengers”. Paired with her dress, Zendaya sparkled a rumored engagement ring from her boyfriend, Tom Holland. Zendaya is known for her amazing red carpet outfits and this one did not disappoint.
Zoe Saldana, best known for her role as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, rocked the red carpet in a Saint Laurent sparkly black gown with a sweetheart neckline and a long brown evening wrap. The subtle sparkles of the gown and the statement wrap made Saldana shine. Saldana won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for her role in “Emilia Perez”.
Stars of “The Substance”, Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, stole the show with their ensembles. “The Substance” won five Golden Globes. Demi Moore won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and wore a Giorgio Armani golden dress to match her award. The Armani Prive dress had a unique neckline and a flared hem. Margaret Qualley, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, wore a white Chanel dress with a sheer ruffled skirt and a black bow at her waistline to tie the piece together.
Anya-Taylor Joy wore a Dior satin blush dress with a light pink shawl. She paired the dress with a Tiffany & Co silver flower statement necklace. Although this look may seem simple, Joy wore the outfit with grace.
The first time Golden Globe attendee, Ariana Grande, wore a gown that paid tribute to her role as Glinda in “Wicked”. Grande was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. This pop star has attended many music award shows, but has been to few film and television ceremonies. Grande’s dress was a pale yellow with a beaded top and an open flared hem. It was a vintage Givenchy 1966 dress, and Grande wore white, elbow high gloves. The dress was worn to honor her “Wicked” character, Glinda, because one of her favorite colors is yellow. It also matches the yellow brick road, the iconic trail followed by the characters in “The Wizard of Oz”.
Many of the outfits at the Golden Globes followed similar patterns. Sweetheart & cowline necklines, earthy & warm colors, like gold, brown, white, and silver, were common trends of the 2025 Golden Globes. The looks were very classy and elegant. Overall, the Golden Globes’ set the standard for the outfits at award ceremonies this spring.
