The new year brings a fresh start for most people. Some people set goals, while others just set reminders for themselves. Students in Rockbridge County also have some New Year’s resolutions that they hope to stick by. While some are about sports and clubs, others are about things they want to do outside of school.
Junior Nadia Gaydos says that she doesn’t really do resolutions and instead focuses on goals.
“My goals are to prioritize making memories,” Gaydos said.
Now others, like senior Khal Higgins, not only have the goals to make memories, but to be themselves this school year.
“My New Year’s resolution is to dress however I want and feel beautiful and not judge myself so harshly like I used to,” Higgins said.
The teachers at Rockbridge County also have new year resolutions.
School nurse Penni Allen is starting a new year workout challenge for the staff called “Thrive In 2025” She started this challenge for the staff just so they can stay healthy and have a fun little activity to do during the rest of the school year. The staff gets a weigh in on Jan. 31 and starting Feb. 1, they will weigh in every Friday and get points for every milestone. Some things they will get points for is if they drink 64 oz of water, if they exercise for 30 minutes a day, and/or if they have lost a pound. To make this even more exciting for the staff, there will be a prize at the end once the workout challenge ends on May 2.
“Everyone pays $10 and then whoever is the winner gets the money in the end,” Allen said.
In the end, it’s just a fitness challenge to get healthy and work together as a team.
Students and teachers all have resolutions, even if they see it as a goal, or never really looked at it as a resolution,. Everyone has a set challenge they would all like to accomplish by the end of the year.
