Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a club that brings students opportunities to pursue careers and support families. The local teachers that help run FCCLA are Amanda Grimm and Corey Wallace.
FCCLA was originally started in 1945 by Edna P. Amidon. She was a futuristic educator and a promoter for juniors and seniors in the Home Economics education.
Amanda Grimm, FCCLA advisor, has been the advisor for 5 years now, starting in 2020. She started when she first became a Family and Consumer Science teacher.
Grimm and other members of FCCLA are currently raising money by selling Krispy Kreme donuts for their trip in April to Virginia Beach for their state conference where they compete with other schools, as well as how to work as a team. The state conference also votes on the leaders for next year with each school.
“Any profit that the kids make on that will help defer the cost of them going to the conference,” Grimm said.
Sophomore, Cate Wilson, FCCLA president, has been part of the organization for 5 years, and this is her first year as president. As president, Wilson makes slideshows for the meetings, as well as planning events and hosting meetings.
“I just encourage more people to join the club,” Wilson said.
FCCLA also comes with multiple opportunities including scholarships and business internships when going to state conferences.
FCCLA members like Cate Wilson would like students to join, because it provides real world skills and prepares them for college and future careers.
