As the end of the school year quickly approaches, current seniors are making the final decision of where they will attend college in the fall. May 1 is known nationwide as College Decision Day, where students officially confirm their acceptance to their college of choice and decline admission everywhere else. However, many students have already committed to their future college campus.
Senior Brianna Roberts plans on attending James Madison University in the fall. She explains what made the campus stand out.
“I have visited the campus multiple times, and I love everything about it. One of the main things I noticed was how much school spirit the current students have,” Roberts said.
Roberts plans on majoring in health sciences on a pre-physician assistant track.
“I’ve met some incredible PA’s who have made me want to become one and go into the healthcare field,” Roberts said.
Senior John Brooke explains how he made his decision to attend Virginia Military Institute.
“I’m going to VMI in the fall because of their good engineering program. I’ve also been around VMI my whole life, and I’ve seen how it has shaped people into role models that I aspire to emulate,” Brooke said.
Brooke then goes on to share what he will be majoring in.
“I’m majoring in Civil Engineering, because I feel like I can make a big difference in the world through improving our country’s infrastructure and bettering the lives of those around me,” Brooke said.
One of the most valuable aspects of college is the bonds built between students, and this is emphasized at VMI. Brooke elaborates on this thought.
“I’m most looking forward to building life-lasting friendships with those around me. I’ve seen how deep these friendships are because of the shared suffering they had to experience, and that is something I look forward to being a part of,” Brooke said.
Senior Elizabeth McCormick will be a student at University of Mississippi this coming school year. McCormick shares what led her to this decision.
“I chose Ole Miss because it’s far from home, but since I have family in Mississippi it doesn’t seem too far,” McCormick said.
She then continued by sharing what made the campus stand out.
“I met so many great people from all over and I got a great impression of the tight knit community within Ole Miss,” McCormick said.
McCormick plans on majoring in nursing. She explains what led her to this field.
“I have always wanted to be in the healthcare field and nursing seems best for what I want to do,” McCormick said.
As a rising college freshman, McCormick shares a piece of advice for someone who may still be deciding where to attend college.
“My advice is to just trust the process. Choosing a college is very stressful, but through that process you will find what is best for you,” McCormick said.
The choice of where to attend college is overwhelming and stressful for nearly every senior, but it is important to remember that everyone is experiencing change in this transition period of their lives.
