As the end of the year draws closer and closer the assumption would be that stress is lifting, and soon every student will be off on summer break. But, for our junior wildcats, that’s not the case. SAT’s and finals are looming over the horizon and that can cause stress. The SAT’s are a collection of multiple different subjects, and question them on information that they have been learning their whole lives. These tests are also important for college scholarships, and can be the difference between a full ride or tuition payment. Finals determine whether you get the class credit or not, and is crucial to gaining enough credits to graduate high-school. For sophomore student Emma Mcknight, she’s starting to feel the pressure
“I’m really stressed, but I’m doing my best to stay on top of studying to prepare for the finals,” Mcknight said.
Even though the stress is weighing down on sophomores as the dates for finals draws closer and closer, there’s still some things you can do to lessen your stress. Tyra Little, one of our counselors, provides some helpful advice for anyone feeling the pressure.
“Student’s can deal with stress by taking care of themselves, getting good sleep, eating healthy, and studying to prepare, ” Little said.
For junior wildcats, the thought of taking such a big test can be really worrying. But, with the proper preparation and studying, it can also be a walk in the park. Junior Cora Conway, she’s isn’t stressed… yet.
“I’m pretty confident, I took the practice tests last year. But, I think as it gets closer I’ll probably stop feeling so calm,” Conway said.
Even for the juniors that are still worried, there are resources available to help prepare for these tests.
“Khan Academy is a great program, and it’s developed by the college board who writes the SAT’s, so who better to study with then the people that wrote it,” Little said.
Of course, getting rid of stress can be tricky. With the weight of college, and graduating on our minds, it’s easy to get over-stressed. Even more so during this time of year, when lots of spring sports athletes have to balance practice and studying. But, lots of resources are available for anyone starting to feel the pressure. The Morgan’s Message club helps athletes find healthy ways to deal with stress during sports season, and our counselors are always available to talk too. Along with that, Washington and Lee tutors are available after school to help you study and to prepare for these different tests and assignments.
