On Friday April 26, there was an extended lunch period for students to enjoy Earth Day. During the lunch period, students were encouraged to go outside and enjoy a variety of activities such as games, tie-dye, and a cake station. Clubs were also able to set up tables to host their own activities or to inform students about their club. The main organizer of this event is the Interact Club, which is a student volunteer club.
English teacher and Interact sponsor, Sarah Leadbetter, describes how she prepared for the upcoming event.
“I set the date with approval from Dr. Craft, invited faculty members and club sponsors to host a table, go

t approval for and ordered cakes, made sure tables are available for use, ordered the tie-dye for our tie-dye table and recruited volunteers, conferred with Coach Glass about games on the upper field,” Leadbettter said.
The entire lunch period was full of outside activities that students can enjoy. Leadbetter explains what activities will be present for students.
“There’s a lots of activities for students to enjoy during the event such as
games, a tie-dye table, cake, and club tables. Additionally, Mrs. Sarah Grimm’s Environmental Science Classes also planned an activity,” Leadbetter said.
Earth Day is also a day for different clubs to get involved with the school. Leadbetter explains how different clubs help out with this event.
“Interact club sponsors this event, but all clubs are welcome to set up information tables and/or events. For example, Dr. Bradley has specifically contacted me to have a table for SAGA/STAND,” Leadbetter said.
Kate Holston is one of the co-presidents of Interact. She describes how she prepared for the event and what the Interact Club did during the event.

“I prepared by setting up the tie-die and getting our members ready. During the event, Interact helped with cake
distribution and tie-dye stations. We always set up a couple of tables set out with plastic table cloth and dyes for the tie-dye stations. Students can bring any white items they would like to dye to the event,” Holston said.
Junior Lillian Woody describes why she was excited for Earth Day this year.
“I am excited for Earth Day because I am excited for the warm weather, cake, and being outside with my friends,” Woody said.
This year the Earth Day celebration is the day before Prom.
Students enjoyed being outside with their friends for a long lunch period and being able to play games. Last year, there was badminton, spike ball, corn hole, and other games available for the students to enjoy. This is a great event for students to relax during the exam season and celebrate keeping our Earth clean.
