As the school year begins, many changes follow. One of which is the introduction of a new Athletic Director, Anthony Marasco.
Marasco assumed the position over the summer, stepping in for Adam Haynes. Marasco has previous experience as a coach, being the previous Rocktown head coach for soccer, golf, and other sports as well as coaching at Harrisonburg High School. Although he has prior experience to sports, this is his first time serving as an Athletic Director.
When asked why he decided to come to Rockbridge, Marasco said that he had heard great things about Rockbridge, and believed it would be a good place to kick off his career as an Athletic Director.
“I coached in the Valley District for 5 years and always had great experiences when it came to competing against Rockbridge. This is why I felt like Rockbridge would be a great place to start my career as an Athletic Director,” Marasco said.
Marasco continued by mentioning what he thought the biggest changes from being a Head Coach to an Athletic Director would be.
“As a soccer or golf coach you really only get to oversee 50 total athletes, compared to being an athletic director where you are overseeing 25 athletic and academic teams. Another big change will be missing out on the day to day practices and getting to be a part of the games as a coach,” Marasco said.
Marasco also stated what his goals were for Rockbridge Athletics this year.
“ I hope to continue to help grow the athletic department and help athletes have a great athletic experience here at Rockbridge County High School,” Marasco said.
The Wildcats look forward to seeing how the athletics department will function under Marasco.
