Anthony Marasco is the new athletic director here at Rockbridge Country High School . Marasco came from Rocktown High School where he used to be a teacher and coach the Rocktown boys soccer team.
Marasco starts his day with a walk around the block with his dog. He then drives to school where he starts his new job of athletic director for the day.
Marasco usually gets to school between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and spends his morning catching up on emails, ensuring he is getting back to anything from the previous night.
Once Marasco catches up on his emails, he tends to spend time with assistant athletic director Travis Rogers to talk about athletic responsibilities and plans for the day before addressing the rest of his emails.
“He is very personable, easy to talk to and open to suggestions that might help the Athletic department,” Rogers said.
For lunch, Marasco said it usually depends on what they have at home.
“I tend to bring leftovers, so whatever my wife and I prepare the night before, I typically bring for lunch the next day,” Marasco said.
Although he likes to bring leftovers, he also enjoys going out.
“Honestly, it’s probably the Chick-fil-A across the street. Sometimes I won’t bring food just so I can go get Chick-fil-A.” Marasco said.
After lunch he heads straight back to work.
His afternoons usually involve preparing for game days. Tasks include: setting up concession stands, handling money and preparing the gym for players and spectators.
Bookkeeper Lisa Miller is another one of Marasco’s co-workers. They work closely together when it comes to gamedays.
“He’s like someone you’ve always known, very easy to work with,” Miller said.
On non-game days, Marasco said he normally gets out around 4:30 p.m. But, on game days, his day goes late into the evening.
“If it’s a game day, we’re there till about 9 or 10 o’clock, depending on how long it goes,” Marasco said.
Marasco included that his preferred part of the job is having the opportunity to be present and make an impact for all of the sports programs.
“As a coach, you only really get to impact your one team that you’re coaching,” Marasco said. “So kind of being the athletic director, it feels like I can impact every athletic team that we have here.”
Looking to the future, Marasco said he is looking forward to continuing to support student-athletes in all sports.
“Just being at games and getting to see our athletes have success I think that’s the best part about this job,” Marasco said.
Marasco is ready for the upcoming school year and is especially excited for the sporting events.
If you ever want to see Marasco in action make sure to come to sporting events. He is usually there doing his Athletic Director duties.
