The cheer team is coming off an amazing season last year. They made it all the way to states at the end of their season and are hopeful to do the same this year.
Last year, they lost seven seniors, making them have to work even harder to integrate new girls and transition to a different team than they had last year.
The captains of the team this year are seniors Willow Rogers, Lilly Ballard, and Gabriella Brown. These are three of the five seniors on the team this year.
This year, the captains are working to keep up with the team’s positive mindset so they can hopefully make it to states this year.
Senior captain Willow Rogers shared some goals she has as a captain this year.
“This year, we are really focusing on a positive outlook. In previous years, we have often let attitudes get us down, but this year we are focusing on communication and everyone working well together,” Rogers said.
Rogers is excited for this season and can’t wait to see what they do and how far they will go.
This team has been working and preparing for their season. Whether they are working on sideline cheers for football or trying to prepare for the upcoming competition season, they have been working hard.
Natasha Shorter is a sophomore on the cheer team this year. Shorter spoke about some skills they have been working on.
“We’ve been working super hard on just being the best we can be, especially with having new people on the team. It’s hard to adapt, but we’ve been doing really well with the task,” Shorter said.
The team has been working to get all of their things ready for their first competition on Sept. 13, which will be held at Heritage High School.
This year, they are lucky to have two home competitions. These competitions will be on Sept. 17 and Oct. 13.
Make sure to come out and support your Wildcat cheerleaders this year, and we wish them a great season.
