On Oct. 1, the Marching Band participated in their home showcase. Aside from Rockbridge, three different schools’ marching bands participated in this showcase, including: Parry McCluer, Bath County, Alleghany, as well as a special exhibition performance from the Southern Virginia University (SVU) Marching Knights.
The Marching Wildcats have participated in two events previously; Blue Ridge Fall Music Games, at the Salem Civic Center on Sept. 20. Following that, they participated in the River City Classic at George Washington High School on Sept. 27.
Sophomore Anika McKeever plays the clarinet and is the woodwind section leader.
“Our show is going pretty well this season. We have way more done this year than we did around this time last year,” McKeever said.
McKeever explains the variety of songs in the performance.
“So far we have all of song one and song two, and some of song three. We are hoping to get down to song three before our next competition so that we can perform it then.”
Junior Patrick McIntyre shares his thoughts on the bands’ performance.
“Tonight went well for the band, we showed a lot of improvement. It always feels good to perform at home, on our own football field, our own turf. It’s good to show our students what we’ve been working on, and it gives us a good sense of accomplishment and pride in what we do,” McIntyre said.
The next competition for the Marching Wildcats is Oct. 22 at the Salem Civic Center for the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association (VBODA) Marching Band Assessment.
