For the past two years, the Student Council Association has been hosting an annual, winter dance for the past two years. Last year, they hosted a Sadie Hawkins dance. However, this Feb. on Friday 15, the SCA hosted their snowball-themed, formal dance.
This year, all students, such as junior Kate Spencer, were given the opportunity to vote on the theme of the dance out of four choices. The Snowball theme won by a landslide.
“I think the opportunity for students to vote on the dance theme was an effective way to promote the dance and to get more attention and interest for it than last year,” said Spencer.
Throughout the school year, the SCA has improved involvement with the student body by holding pep rallies, passing out popsicles, and getting the students excited for the year. Allowing students the opportunity to vote on the dance theme was an effort to get the students excited about the dance.
SCA executive president, senior Hunter Grist, has been planning the snowball dance for months.
“SCA has been hard at work all year, and the snowball dance is just one more thing we wanted to plan to have more fun opportunities for the students,” said Grist.
SCA members, such as executive vice president, junior Mary Troise, worked all day setting up decorations for the dance, which was from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“I think it was important and beneficial for SCA members to help set up the dance because we all had to work together in order to succeed,” said Troise. “It was stressful at times, but in the end we put on a great dance that I think the students really enjoyed.”
