Quarantine Influences the Election
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, several events, such as concerts, music festivals, and sporting events, have been delayed. Despite these cancelations, the 2020 presidential election has heated up and is in full swing.
From Pete Budigeg coming out on top in the Iowa Caucus to Bernie Sanders dropping out, a lot has changed in the last few months. Sanders dropping left Joe Biden as the only democratic candidate, which narrows the race down to Biden and Donald Trump.
These months leading up to November are the most important for a campaign. However, election news might be taking a backseat to coronavirus news. Understandably, updates about the coronavirus are extremely important to the public. However, what does this mean for the election?
All aspects of campaigning are being turned upside down. Both Biden and Trump have already been canceling large events in different states. For both candidates, campaigning during these next few months will be a challenge. Holding rallies and visiting different cities violates current social distancing guidelines. When thinking about both past and current campaigns, rallies are an essential aspect of campaigning. It is one of the most effective ways to gain support. Without rallies, both candidates will have to rework their campaign plan in order to gain the most votes.
Acquiring voters will be a major challenge for the candidates. Not only do the candidates have to gain, but they also have to plan for voter turnout. Chances are, voter turnout will be low for the 2020 presidential election. This is something to start planning for now. If citizens refuse to come out and vote, due to different fears of the process, voter turnout will be at an all time low.
The 2020 presidential election is an extremely unique one. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, candidates are being faced with many challenges, and are having to rework their entire campaign plan. The rest of the campaign trail will surely be filled with uncertainty and confusion.
