America’s 46th President Gets Inaugurated
On Wednesday, January 20, 2021 Joe Biden became the 46th president of the United States of America.
Due to Covid-19 and other events leading up to the inauguration, the 2021 presidential inauguration looked a little different from years past. First off, former President Donald Trump was the first president in over a century to not attend his successor’s inauguration. This was also the first time that a president (Trump) had been impeached a week before the scheduled inauguration. The inauguration was also amidst a pandemic, so Biden encouraged Americans to stay home and celebrate virtually.
Before noon, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris gave their oaths of faith and were sworn into office. Following the oaths of faith, Biden gave his inaugural speech.
Joe Biden stayed true to his role of unity when he presented his speech. He talked about how unity should triumph over division and that bringing everyone together is the first step in the right direction. He also made an effort to reach out to those who didn’t vote for him. Biden preached about democracy and how our differences and disagreements are what should bring us together, not allow us to fall apart as a country. Biden also discussed issues such as racial injustice, climate change, and Covid-19. He talked about why these topics are important right now and his plans to overcome them together as a country.
Within the first three days of presidency, Joe Biden signed 30 executive orders having to do with Coronavirus, the economy, the environment, immigration, equality, and more. Biden wanted to get right to work and begin undoing some of the things Trump implemented while in office that he thought needed change.
Alongside the executive orders, Senator Bernie Sanders has made his rounds through the media as well for the millions of memes being made from his iconic outfit. The lighthearted memes have brought a sense of comedy and light heartedness to this year’s inauguration and have made Americans from all political parties laugh and find joy during these first few days of Biden’s presidency.
