Lexington Locals Vote on Elections
On Nov. 8th, 2022, Lexington locals voted on the midterm elections. Voting was for the House of Representative, City Council, and a referendum to make school board positions a voted position rather than appointed.
The City Council candidates were incumbents, someone who is already in office, Charles Smith and David Sigler, and new candidates Nicholas Betts and Collette Barry-Rec. Winners of the election were both of the incumbents as well as Betts. At the time of publication, results were reporting 75% vote completion, according to WDBJ7 News.
Lexington locals were also able to vote in the US Congress District 6 House of Representatives election. The candidates were Republican incumbent Ben Cline and Democrat Jennifer Lewis. Ben Cline pulled away with the victory receiving 65% of the votes in his favor. At the time of publication, results were reporting 93% of vote completion, according to WDBJ7 News.
The ballot also consisted of a referendum which contained a vote for whether or not the Lexington School Board should be a voted position or stay an appointed position. The results were in favor of a direct election by voters with 1,213 affirmations, a 62.88% majority, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.
