The World Languages Department is getting prepared for one of the best events of the year – International Week! This annual celebration brings students and teachers together to embrace the diverse cultures and world languages that make up our school community. Now, students have an opportunity to take a trip around the world without leaving school hallways.
The International Week will take place from March 10 to March 14. Additionally, this is the first year of bringing this celebration back to our school since 2020. In preparation for this event, students will showcase different countries through creative projects such as international footprints. Each of these international footprints laid on the World Language Hallway will represent fun facts about various countries and their unique cultures. Hallways will transfer into colorful representations of various nations, featuring flags and cultural facts.
Teachers are also incorporating global themes into their lessons, allowing students to learn more about various customs, languages, and histories. They are also planning to play Spanish songs between classes on March 13 in order to teach students about various international songs.
The Spanish teacher shares her thoughts about an upcoming event and admits that she enjoys helping with organization.
“We are excited to showcase our department and the wonderful work our students do each day. Hopefully, we can influence more students to enroll in our language program. We also want to recognize the native languages of our exchange students,” Youngblood said.

International Week is more than just a celebration; it’s a reminder of the beauty of diversity and the importance of global awareness. In addition, it’s a good way to strengthen the school community and enrich their spirits during the school year.
Peyton Chaoyong is an exchange student from Thailand who shares his opinion about this celebration.
“I really enjoy International Week because everyone gets to present their unique cultures, allowing us all to learn so many new things. I’m very happy to participate in International Week to present my country and culture to my teachers and friends. For me, this experience is an important step in helping everyone learn more about Thailand and explore other cultures myself,” Chaoyong said.
If you would like to help with organizing this event, you can email Jamie Younglood or Andy Martin for more information in rooms 204 and 205 respectively.
