There are many commentators in the sport of football that are enjoyable to watch a game with. As football viewers, here are our top 5 favorite commentators in sports.
Our favorite announcer by a landslide is Gus Johnson. One of the reasons why he is our favorite is because he is very versatile in his announcing. He announces football for the NFL and College Football, as well as March Madness basketball. We also love that he has so much enthusiasm that comes with each call he makes. No other person can do it with the passion that he does.
Second on our list is Jim Nantz. The reason why we love him is that he also announces multiple sports. He does the Masters every year, as well as announcing for CBS for the NFL. Another thing we love about Jim Nantz is that he’s never biased, [especially] because some announcers can come across as it. He only talks about the facts and makes games more enjoyable to watch with his commentating..
Next up we have Kirk Herbstreit. The reason why we have him on our list is because of his historical impact. Herbstreit has been on college gameday shows since 1996. College Gameday is every weekend during college football season on Saturdays from 9 AM to noon. In addition to this, he announces the Rose Bowl each year. His non stop commitment to the love of broadcasting is incredible, which is why he received number 3 on our list.
Although he’s second to last on the list, Tony Romo is a legend both on and off the field. On the field he was an all time great Dallas Cowboys quarterback, who played for fourteen seasons and could be a possible future Hall of Famer. He uses his many years in the NFL to enrich his announcing. He is well known for being able to predict plays, audibles, and coaching decisions before it even happens on the field. His ability to read coverages as an analyst brings a lot to the broadcasts, which many fans love, including us. In addition to his insight, he has a very likable personality and makes for an overall fun watch.
The final commentator that is in the top 5 on our list is Joe Tessitore. The reason why he is on our list is because he also announced the show Holey Moley, which is an extreme mini-golf game that is extremely funny and enjoyable to watch. He is also a great ABC and ESPN announcer. He always keeps games interesting and fun to watch.
Our first honorable mention is Pat McAfee. Like Romo, he is an NFL legend, playing eight seasons in the league with the Indianapolis Colts. On the field he was known for his high energy and hilarious personality. All these years later, and he is still known for the same thing, just on a different stage. The reason he is only an honorable mention is because he technically doesn’t announce games, but he does have a show on ESPN where he interviews football personalities and players. He does so in an “edgy” way with humor that may not sit well with some people, but others find absolutely hilarious, and we love his humor. Either way, he had to be on our list as he is an up and coming star in our eyes with a very bright future.
Our other honorable mention goes to Brad Nessler. He has been commentating for college football for an extremely long time. When Verne Lundquist announced that he wasn’t commentating for CBS anymore, Nessler took his spot and announced it with Gary Danielson. The thing we like about Nessler is that he doesn’t announce using the same words every time, he switches up what he says, which keeps the game even more interesting.
Overall, there are many commentators that we love to listen to and enrich our football watching experience.
