According to Spotify, millions of people around the world listen to Taylor Swift every day. But in my opinion, recently her albums have stopped becoming people’s new favorites. She has been experimenting with a new style that includes synth that hasn’t been resonating with as many people, and this is beginning the downfall of her music. 

Students were polled on their favorite Taylor Swift album and 24% voted for “1989”

versus 2% who voted for “The Tortured Poets Department”, her most recent album. 

Even though her second most recent album received really good feedback, it still was less popular than many of her older favorites. With only 4.9%, “Midnights” didn’t receive a very good vote compared to many others. 

Another argument as to why Taylor Swift is reaching the end of her career is that she is getting too old. As a well known singer whose songs are about love, as she is getting older she will have less to write about. 

While some people disagree with this, it is important to think realistically. The content of her music is more relatable to young people. If these events aren’t happening in her life due to her age, she won’t have anything to release. I’m not saying that there aren’t plenty of older popular artists, but Swift’s music style is much more targeted to young people. They find her songs about young love similar to theirs, and they are more motivated to listen.

My predictions are that Swift will release “Reputation” and “Debut” as Taylors version albums, and then her career will mostly be over. My only other idea for another album would be if she ends up breaking up with Travis Kelce. The couple seems to be going strong, so hopefully this won’t end up happening. They seem to have a very positive relationship, and have a very strong bond with each other. 

This is not meant to take anything away from Swift, as she is an amazing songwriter, and very good at what she does. At some point, all artists have to retire from what they are doing because they don’t have much to write about anymore.
