On top of providing education for students, most high schools have other features which make them a more enjoyable place. For RCHS, one of these is that music is played in the hallways in between classes on Fridays. The songs are chosen from requests on a Google Form that students put in.
The music in between classes has always been a feature of RCHS, however due to the intercom system being broken last year, there was no music. This means it is pretty much a new feature for sophomores and freshman since they were not in high school when the system worked properly.
In my opinion, I think that the music is a nice touch to the transition between classes. I think it is nice to hear songs in between classes and can even give me a little more energy from time to time. I also like the diversity of music types they play and that they don’t just play the same type of songs.
However, I think it could use a little improvement. I think that sometimes it is hard to even notice that they are playing music because of how quiet it is. I think this is the biggest problem with the idea. Another problem is occasionally they don’t even start playing it until I am most of the way, if not already in my next class.
I do believe that when they play it at the right volume and right when the transition period starts, it is a really nice touch to the hallways and can brighten not only my, but other people’s days. I think if they made it louder and played it right when the transition period starts, it could be a really nice touch to the high school.
