Milkshakes are a very popular sweet treat in Rockbridge. Luckily, we have many spots to get these shakes, but which is the best?
We went to Pure Eats, Chick-fil-A, McDonald’s, Arby’s and Cook Out and asked each worker for their most popular milkshake flavor. Then, we ranked each milkshake off of texture, creativity, flavor, price and service.
In last place, we have the McDonald’s McDonaldland Shake. While the creativity was unheard of with the bright blue blueberry base and hot pink cotton candy whipped cream, the execution did not hit the mark.
The actual milkshake was decent. The color was very offsetting, but the sweet blueberry flavor and the thickness of the milkshake was very tasty. The whipped cream, on the other hand, was actually rancid. It did not taste anything like cotton candy; a more accurate comparison would be dirt. The actual milkshake was very cheap, only $3.77, and the service was astonishing, coming out in only a couple of minutes.

In fourth place, there is the Cook Out caramel Oreo cheesecake milkshake. Generally, Cook Out milkshakes are not too bad, but this one unfortunately did not meet our expectations. Without the caramel, this milkshake could have been good, but with it, there were too many flavors going on.
This milkshake does still get points for creativity, as we would not have thought to combine those specific flavors. The texture, while thick, was the classic Cook Out texture. Additionally, this milkshake was cheap, only $4.44, and the service was amazing.
Coming out in third place we have Chick-fil-A. In this case, it may be a good idea to stick to the frosted lemonades. The chocolate milkshake was not good. Texture was on point, and the whipped cream and cherry added a cute touch, but the flavor closely resembled dust. The chocolate flavor tasted like syrup, not actual chocolate.
A little more expensive, this milkshake was $6.10, but the service was, again, spectacular. In this case, it may just be a good idea to pick a different order.
Racking up in second place we have the Pure Eats cookies and cream milkshake. The flavor was scrumptious, the texture was a beyond perfect thickness, and the cookie pieces added an immaculate crunch.
The one major downside of this milkshake was the price, $8.90, especially considering how small the actual milkshake was. However, this is because it uses local ice cream from a creamery, which raises the price. Service was still flawless, so props to Pure Eats. Even though the price and size of the milkshake were under par, the actual shake was so delectable that we would go there every day of the week to grab that creamy shake.
Finally, in first place, we have our glorious winner, the Arby’s jamocha milkshake. A very creative choice, the jamocha shake tastes just like your favorite coffee. It is important to note that if you are not a coffee person, you will not like this milkshake.
Unfortunately, the texture was a little on the thicker side, but it was not too terrible. We feel like with a thicker straw it would be easier to demolish. This shake was exceptionally cheap, only $4.89, for its gigantic size. We only ordered regular, but it was still bigger than our heads.
There are many great options in Rockbridge to go get milkshakes, and the flavor you choose, no matter where you go, can be amazing. There were a few places on our list that we did not get to go try such as Sweet Things and Kenney’s. Overall, all these milkshakes could be exceptionally delicious, depending on your taste, but Pure Eats and Arby’s definitely came out on top.
