As leaves are falling so are old fashion trends, and let’s be honest, there’s a lot of trends. Some are good and others, well, let’s just say should not return.
As soon as that autumn air hits I pull out all of my sweaters and skirts. My go-to outfit is a comfy sweater, cute skirt, Converse, and obviously some frilly socks. It combines comfort with class and can express my style while still being practical.
Other people’s go-to outfit ranges from baggy jeans and a sweater to a hoodie and sweatpants but overall peoples styles vary. That’s what’s great about fall fashion, everyone can wear a variety of clothing and the temperature allows for that to happen.
Speaking of temperatures, the one thing that I can’t get over is people wearing vests to “warm” them. There are no sleeves, so your arms will still be cold. This means your chest will be unusually warm because of the layers underneath to make up for the sleeveless effect. The style of the vest are adorable and can be a statement piece but practically, they do nothing.
Sophomore Emma Ackley says she would remove the vest from fall fashion.
“ Vests simply are not cute and look awkward. They are not warming you at all, and are quite frankly kinda stupid.” said Ackley.
Speaking of statement pieces, UGG’s should not make a comeback. UGG’s give off early 2000s which is an era with big makeup, extra low-rise jeans and unusually fuzzy footwear. As expressed in a past article I find UGG’s impractical, inconvenient, and just unappealing to wear. The shoe lacks water resistance so purchasing them for a rainy season seems silly. The UGG itself is a very fall color and does have a fall vibe, but is overhyped and in my opinion ugly.
Sophomore Mckenzie Clemmer shares her opinion on the footwear,
“Uggs, I don’t see the point in spending that much when you can’t wear them in the rain,” said Clemmer.
In a poll sent to students 60 percent say jeans are their go-to pants for fall. With that being said, there are so many options. There are baggy, low-rise, mom, skinny, and even ripped jeans. I personally love a cute pair of jeans for fall because jeans express who the person is and can be a focal point in someone’s outfit.
Senior Cora Conway explains her perfect fall outfit.

“Jeans and a jumbo sweater,” said Conway.
Henry Hirt shares what his perfect outfit would be.
“Baggy jeans, brown jacket, and a white dress shirt,” said Hirt.
There are so many different tops to wear with jeans. 47.3 percent of students say sweaters are the top choice for tops, while 37 percent of students say that a sweatshirt or crewneck is their choice. Both are perfect for fall because both tops have their pros and cons. Crewnecks are simple, casual, and comfy while providing warmth but sometimes give off a “no effort” look. Sweaters on the other hand are more professional, cozy, and make an outfit put together, but sometimes are hard to pair with pants. There are so many options for outfits, some people even pull inspiration from models and fashion magazines.
According to Vogue the trends for this fall are: Nomadic Spirit, Modern Prep, Maximalism for Minimalists, Lingerie Dressing, Uptown Punk, 24/7 Sequin, Country-Coded, and Curious Color Combinations. Do what you will with this information, but I was in shock after reading these since they’re so bold compared to the cozy autumn colors in stores.
Overall fall is a time of fashion trends to rise or downright disappoint and this year there are certainly options. I personally won’t be dressing in sequins 24/7 or wearing “Curious Color Combinations” but that’s just my opinion. Will the Wildcats fall into popular fashion trends this season or stick with the classics?
