Last week, on Aug. 12, Erin Allen and Miranda Fitz, the Theater class teachers, announced this year’s play. Last year, they performed “Legally Blonde Jr.,” and in years past, they performed “Oliver Jr,” “Chicago: Teen Edition,” and “The Wizard of Oz.” This year’s performance will be “Grease.”
“We alternate from a classic play […] and a new and different play [each year],” said Allen. “A play has to be more than 30 years old to be a classic.”
“Grease” is a play about a bad boy and a well-to-do girl who fall in love and have to figure out how to manage. This is the first play since the Theater Department started up again after COVID to feature characters in high school; the last plays’ characters were mainly above the age of 20.
Last year, sophomore Abigail Woodford played the lead role of Elle Woods in the production of “Legally Blonde Jr.”
Woodford said “Grease is one of my all-time favorite movies, so I can’t wait to be a part of this show!”
She then elaborated, “I think we have a really amazing cast and I can’t wait to see what part everyone gets.”
Woodford plans to audition for a “Pink Lady,” the name of one of the major supporting groups at the high school in “Grease.”
Junior Eden Smith, who played one of Vivian Kensington’s minions, Whitney, in “Legally Blonde Jr.,” said “I’m super excited for [‘Grease’]. I have to be Frenchy!”
“Grease” will be performed from March 19 through 21, with doors opening at 6 PM. Concessions and exclusive “Grease” T-shirts will be sold at all performances.
