‘Cats Rally Against Golden Eagles

After losing to Northside Vikings in three straight sets on Tuesday, September 27, Rockbridge rallied at a home match on Thursday September 29 against Staunton River. According to sophomore Kennedy Clemmer, the ‘Cats were more prepared for Thursday’s match than they had been prior to taking on the Vikings at Northside.

“I think we played really well on Tuesday,” said Clemmer, “I just think we weren’t exactly ready for Northside. In this game, we came in ready for the opponent and knew what we were coming into.”

The ‘Cats took an early lead in the first set. After gaining a 15-4 lead, they never led by fewer than 11 points, finishing the set 25-9. Junior captain Hannah Burch had several early kills, swinging the momentum toward Rockbridge.

Going into the second set the ‘Cats took an 11-6 lead. However, the Golden Eagles scored several unanswered points and took the lead 16-7, marking the only lead they would have in the game. The ‘Cats came back to take a 22-19 lead, ultimately winning the second set 25-19.

The ‘Cats carried their momentum into the third set to win 25-19, finishing out the game in straight sets. Clemmer praised the teamwork and positivity throughout the game, considering it a large factor towards their success.

“I think we all really played together and were definitely working on things that we were improving in practice,” said Clemmer, “I think we just had a positive attitude overall.”

The ‘Cats are 6-6 on the season, facing their next opponent Robert E. Lee High School at home on Monday October 3.
