Volleyball Ends Historic Season
The Cats’ volleyball team concluded their historic season in a loss to the Hidden Valley Titans on Saturday Nov. 11. Losing the game three sets to two, the Cats’ path to the state semifinals ended.
The Wildcats started with an early lead, winning the first two sets 27-25 and 25-18. Sophomore Grayson Armstrong led the team in the first set with 7 kills and 13 blocks.
In the third set the Titans came back with a 25-10 win and continued their momentum into the fourth set with a 25-22 win.
In the fifth, tie breaking set the Cats’ led 4-2, but the Titans caught up and won 15-7.
Freshman Jaydyn Clemmer led the team with six kills and 23 digs, and Senior Hannah Burch helped with 20 assists, two kills, four blocks, and four digs.
Regardless of their loss, the Cats’ took home several individual awards in Region C volleyball. Burch was named first team All Region C and Region C player of the year. Additionally, Clemmer, Armstrong, and Senior Keely Doyle were named to the All Region C second team. Junior Kennedy Clemmer was also named All Region C second team libero. Senior Erika Paredes and Junior Jaden Harrison were both given honorable mentions.
Head Coach Amanda McCoy was named Region C coach of the year. Even though the Cats’ fell to Hidden Valley, McCoy was proud of the progress the team made in states.
“We knew from the beginning the team had potential to go deep into postseason play, however it was going to take a different mentality than years past,” said McCoy, “Our captains worked well in keeping our goals fore front and we made sure that we were always working to be better each day and match.”
Doyle was also proud of the season and believed it should help her as she continues her volleyball career at Emory and Henry College.
“I think the season really showed another level of family when it comes to a sport, and going into a college sport where you are going to be with those people 24-7, having experience in that environment already will really help in college,” said Doyle.
After winning districts and regions this year, McCoy has high hopes for next fall.
“Next season looks bright, we will miss our seniors and their leadership and commitment to the program but we will welcome some new talent as they move up,” said McCoy, “We will work to not only match but exceed this season’s great accomplishments.”
