After a record-setting season last year, indoor track head coach Jennifer Showalter has her sights set high for this season.

“I think we will be one of the top teams in the Valley District this up and coming season,” said Showalter.

This season, there are younger players than in years past, and Showalter expressed some of the goals she has for them.

“This year, my goals for the team is to improve on field events, sprints, and hurdles as well,” said Showalter.

As a first-timer runner, sophomore Madison Carroll set goals for herself.

“In my first season running, my goals contain doing my best to try to build up my strength,” said Carroll.

Carroll thinks her upbeat personality will have a strong impact on the team.

“I want to contribute in a way of being positive on the team and letting people on the team know that there’s always someone cheering them on who is also on the team,” said Carroll.

Sophomore Matthew White is focused on areas in which he feels he needs to improve for his second season of indoor track.

“One of the areas in which I feel I need to improve on is my throw. I hope to throw at least 37’ in shotput,” said White.

White is confident that he will be able to contribute to the team’s improvement.

“I think this year I will be able to get the guys’ team more points for throwing farther than last year and also running the 55-meter dash,” said White.

Coming out of the cross-country season, junior Faerin Dick believes that her cross country experience will help her prepare for indoor track.

“I think coming from the cross-country season definitely helps with our overall fitness levels, but in cross country, we run a lot longer distances, so it’s still hard to train for faster events,” said Dick.

This year, the girls are the defending Indoor 3A Conference Champions, and in Dick’s mind, the girls will be able to use that confidence to their advantage, and make it to states.

“Being conference champs last year will hopefully give us a goal for this year too, but we lost a lot of runners last year that helped make the win possible,” said Dick. “I’m hoping the new runners will help get us another conference championship.”
