Dustin Johnson Takes the Masters
Dustin Johnson is a professional golfer from South Carolina who recently won the 2020 Masters tournament and shot the lowest recorded score in the tournament. However, Johnson, like many golfers, has had his fair share of hardships through the years.
According to the writers at sportscasting.com, in 2014, after two years of sobriety, Johnson failed a drug test due to cocaine. The results were not shared with the public, however, he was suspended. After another failed test, the PGA suspended Johnson for six months. At the end of his suspension, Johnson announced that he would take a break from the sport for personal reasons.
Johnson also struggled with upsets and bad luck on the course. In the 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble beach, Johnson grounded his club in a bunker and was given a two stroke penalty. This penalty cost him the match. In 2015, Johnson lost the U.S. Open again after he missed an eagle putt for the win and choked the birdie putt to go to playoffs.
Finally, after completely cutting drugs from his life, Dustin Johnson won a PGA Tour championship. Johnson has since acquired 20 major championship wins.
Johnson is now the top golfer in the world, and he proved that he deserved that title at this year’s Masters. Johnson ended the tournament shooting 20 under par, the world record low score in the Masters Tournament. Along with setting a record, he won the top prize from an $11.5 million pool, the second largest purse in PGA history.
Johnson battled many hardships and heartbreaks during his career, but he has prevailed and found himself back on top through persistence.
