On Saturday, Sept. 16 the Wildcat cheer team went to Heritage High School in Lynchburg for their first competition. They placed second in division against seven other cheer teams. The teams were Cave Spring High, Brookville High, Christiansburg High, Lord Botetourt High, Pulaski County High, Staunton River High, and Northside High.
Willow Rogers is a Sophomore this year and she elaborates more on Saturday’s competition.
“We are very proud of our performance at this week’s competition. As you know this was our first competition but I feel we started the season off strong. No routine ever goes perfect and we will be right back in the gym to keep practicing,”said Rogers.
Captain senior Abre Smith shares her input in the cheer competition.
“I think our strengths as a team is how close we are to one another! We go on team dinners and eat a meal before every game. I also think the highlight of the competition was how well we performed even after we changed a couple of things in the last few practices. The number one goal for the team would have been to hit every stunt and to perform as well as we can in order to make it as far as possible.”
The cheer team had another competition at Northside High School Saturday the 23rd. They placed fifth out of nine other teams.
Their next competition is tomorrow, we wish them the best of luck as they move forward in the season and Go Cats!
