A month ago, on Aug 15, senior Andrew McCoy made history by breaking the long-standing record for the lowest score, (63), in a single round of golf on the Shenvalee course. His amazing performance on the course left spectators in awe and secured his place in course history.
This outstanding milestone has set McCoy’s status as one of the greatest golfers in our district.
David Miller has been the golf coach for 15 years.
“What I witnessed could have been the best Valley District golf round in history,” said Miller.
Coach Miller expressed his awe by saying,
“Andrew McCoy was unbelievable and scored 63! 8 under par. He ran away with medalist honors and did it with style. Everyone played well but the day belonged to Andrew McCoy,” said Miller.
Miller also stated that McCoy is a hard worker and he was very happy that it was indeed McCoy that broke the record.
After his amazing game, McCoy said, “I felt good about my game going into the match, I knew that if I just stuck to my game and didnt get too far ahead of myself I could put up a good score” which he did and doing so he achieved such a milestone.
It’s clear that he trusted his preparation and the advice from his coach.
When asked how he felt about breaking the record McCoy said, “After my putt dropped on 18 I didn’t really know how to react, it took a while for everything to sink in because the whole round just kind of felt like a big blur.”
Looking ahead, McCoy hopes to continue his record breaking performance as the season continues. The next match is September 16th, where McCoy will face off.
